Karen Organization of America was successfully founded in August of 2018 in Omaha, Nebraska at a conference attended by more than fifty Karen community leaders from twenty different states across the United States.  The establishment of KOA was a result of a month-long consultation and discussion between two previously established Karen Organizations: Karen Organization of the United States of America (KOUSA) and Karen American Organization (KAO).

At a consultation conference on June 13th of 2018, KOUSA and KAO’s leaders explored the possibility of working together and merging the two organizations in order to improve operational effectiveness, increase cooperation, strengthen and acclimate Karen communities in  the United States.

Leaders of the two groups mentioned above agreed to merge and collaborate as one entity.   The two organizations hold their official conference on August 8th of 2018 in Omaha, Nebraska where the Karen Organization of America was officially founded.
